woke up by kak amani's call. derg nk dtg opal n gune dryer. huhu. woke up late altho in juz 3 hrs i'll be goin to heathrow. da la packing x abes lg. n then mcm teroverestimate time. tibe2 da zohor. lunch is megi ayam yg dimakan dgn super cepatnye.

supposedly ktorg nk jln je g bus station tp sbb SAYE turun lmbt, kene la naek taxi. rase guilty gile ok? sori mai, qilah. naseb baek dpt catch d bus. sume org dgn beg masing2 yg agak ringan naek la bas. duduk kat seat blkg skali, tgh2. beside me were 2 boys whom i didnt care much about. tertdo~~

arrived at zurich. malangnye kedai sume da tutup n there's nothing else for us to do. when we headed to d kerusi2 n sumbody said we're gonna sleep there, i was like, "bia benar??". under normal condition x berani kot nk sukati je tdo merate2 (esp kt ni pompuan kn). kene transit 10hrs n d earliest shops will open is at 6! mau x mau terpakse la tdo. i thought wont get any sleep. wrong. dpt la tdo gk altho x la as comfortable as it is on a bed. obviously

woke up at 5 for so-called hirasah. huhu. everyone else was still sleeping. while waiting, i read some of d info i got about turki. juz 2 be prepared. then sume org pon cm start la bgn. got bored so decided to walk around with kak mira. pegi la kedai2 yg ade dlm epot tu. tp tau2 je la. kedai mahal2. msk Swatch. thought of getting a watch bcoz spjg kat uk ni tade jam pon. haih. terlupe bwk time fly. haha. but unfortunately (but expected), tade yg menarik di hati pon~

arrived at attartuk international airport! im in turkey!! susah nk caye. ehe. passport control- dpt cop turki kat paspot! my 1st ever in pasport! oh btw. laki yg jage counter tu cm tersengih2 je. apehal tah~ dlm flight td byk gile kot tdo. saket tengkok! then bole la claim baggage. time kua from arrival tu kn, cm ramai gile org kat lua. haha. for juz a second, terase cm celebrity. HAHA. kua2 je jd cm blur. nk wat ape tah? so ktorg pon carik seat n duduk while waiting 4 our transport to come..

some misunderstandings bout our transport after waiting for so long. but d van arrived, at last. another conflict. we've paid 190ytl 4 d transport but suddenly d guy told us 2 pay 20ytl more to d driver. he said sumting like having 2 fill d fuel. hah? penah ke kt naek teksi n die suro byr 4 minyak? my face mmg muke x puas ati gile time tu n dok mengutuk2 die dr blkg. cis. br smpi da jd cmni..ish2. saba je la. da la cm ade traffic jam sket. on d way 2 our hostel dpt la tgk some scenery of turkey~



arrived at our hostel: Big Apple! comel x name die? ahah. letak brg2 n d owner brought us 2 a restaurant. n die cm konon2 jd pengantara ktorg ngn org kedai tu. hehe. n die tgu ktorg mkn. haha. baek plak die ni. atas meja dah tersedia cm salad, roti n sumting white. rupe2nye mende tu ialah yoghurt. n dimakan bersame roti! err..mkn je but not really serasi ngn selera. hehe. i ate chicken shish! nasik die unik dan sedap! naseb baek ayam die ayam keras..

sunday, 23/12/07

had breakfast: bread+butter+jam+turkish tea. at d so-called open terrace of our hostel. d sun was shining brightly thru d window n it felt nice. menarik! perot pon sudah berisi. then our adventure in turkey started! yea~

berjalan kaki menuju ke tmpt feri nk g Selat Bosphorus. on d way stopped at a shop (again) n bought some nice postcards. ehe. it was quite chilly outside. we walked until we reached some kind of city i guess, where there were lots of shophouses. n i saw McD! (kat turki halal) hehe. then saw d sea! nice~~ 2 get to d ferry we need to cross d jejambat (?). d view from up there was cool!! when we reached wut i call as jetty, there were lots of ppl. then some guy came n offered us his boat trip.

n we agreed. so we walked, which was quite far from d crowd, to his boat. naek bot. but no life jacket! hoho. but it was cool!~ n really COLD too. d sun was bright n d view was breathtaking. u can see both d europe n asian side of turkey. n i got 2 hear my 1st azan here. it felt...very nice. undescribable~

d boat stopped at Ortakoy. i thought there was some significant place to visit but it was actually juz a shopping place. lots of stalls selling things like gloves, pashminas etc etc. i was walking with kak mira n kak amani (im always walking with d akaks, kn?) i didnt buy any, which i regretted later bcoz i found dis cool green gloves n i couldnt find anymore afterwards. =( got back on d boat. altho d scenery was beautiful, i found it hard to concentrate bcoz it was SO COLD! i was freezing, ok? when we got back 2 d 'jetty', one of d fishing rod from d bridge got stuck 2 our boat n we heard d sound of a loud crack. ooppss. i think d fishing rod broke! kesian org tu. sum1 was shouting angrily from above. but thinking back, mata kail tu bole terkene one of us! scary~

it's lunch time! a guy from a restaurant started calling out, "malaysia?" ehh?? cane derg bole tau psl msia ni?? but little did i know..so we ate at d quite posh restaurant. takot gk mahal tp he promised 2 give us discounts. perot pon da lapa. ape lg kan. mkn la fish sandwich kat situ. but it was too dry. so we asked 4 chilli sauce n mayonaise. tgk2 die kuarkn yg besa punye. haha. myb x pnh ade org mintk kot? next stop: Galata tower!

Galata tower is somewhat up d hill. huhu. penat woo mendaki bukit. nk msk kene byr 10ytl. turki ni satu je la x best. sume tmpt nk g kene byr. if im not mistaken, ni la tmpt di mane sultan muhammad al-fatih tgk d whole istanbul. from up there. agak tinggi la. gayat gk tgk bwh. n d 'corridor' cm sempit gk n kene cm penyek2kn bdn utk kasi org lalu. it was scary, especially when u hv to lean against d penghadang! but true, i think u can see d whole istanbul from up there.

then stopped at a mosque (which i forgot its name) to pray. while waiting, some of d Turkish ppl talked 2 us. sgt menarik. bcoz derg cm sgt berusahe nk ckp ngn ktorg eventho derg xde la reti sgt english. body language played important role that time. i came 2 realise that english is not THAT important. yea, we in msia stressed so much 4 english (which i admit is quite useful), but english is not everything. a guy, whose niece we talked to even offered help to us, which was very nice. so we asked direction to our next stop: Suleiman mosque

it was dark already. we were following d direction some guy showed us. we reached an area of shophouses, which weirdly, all were closed. we were also walking up d hill which seemed endless. we juz followed d signboard until we came to a poorly-lit alley. then came a police in a car, stopping us. time tu da pelek. ade ke ktorg wat salah pape? then he said sumting like we're goin 2 a dangerous area! hah?? ape lg, ktorg pon tuka arah n ikot jln yg die tunjuk. alhamdulillah~ naseb baek terselamat drpd ape2 yg x elok~

at last smpi. tp pegi toilet dulu jap. ehh?? g toilet pon kene byr?? n tade la lawa sgt pon toiletnye. ish2. pelek btol. n d weirder thing was, d mosque was closed soon after we arrived. x smpt pon nk masuk. masjid pon bole tutup eh? punye la susah ktorg nk smpi. so tape la..g mkn kat kedai dpn Suleiman mosque tu.

malangnye, d guy cannot speak english at all. n he started to talk in Turkish, which we obviously dont understand. but he looked excited to have us there n we felt kesian plak la kn. we wanted to order but everytime he juz said "sabar, sabar." some of us were already restless. then suddenly, came d food. aik? x order pon cane leh dpt mknn ni? tp mkn je la. sedap! reminded me of nasi paprik. huhu..

bile nk byr, die tibe2 tuleh 180ytl. we were like, "what??" but luckily we bargained everything n it went down to 80. haih. we felt cheated, u know. bcoz we didnt even ordered n suddenly we hv 2 pay 4 sumting we initially dont want. but myb he didnt even understand wut we're saying. so d lesson is: jgn mkn kat restaurant unless at least one of them can speak english!

d adventure didnt stop there. we had trouble finding our way back. we first followed a couple, who seemed like tourists. but they started to follow a dark road n d area seemed dodgy. perasaan time tu x terkate. tibe2 ade plak some guys at d dark alley. ok. time tu mmg bertawakkal sungguh2. alhamdulillah everything is ok. eventually we arrived to d main road n found our way back to Sultanahmet, back to our hostel. wut a day~

that nite, d heater went off so all of us were freezing while sleeping

turkey 07: day 3

monday, 24/12/07

had d same breakfast again n headed 4 topkapi palace. as d name suggest, it's a palace where d Ottoman sultans live 4 almost 500 yrs (if im not mistaken). like any other palace in d world, it is surely beautiful n all but wut makes it different is d Islamic characteristics of it. u can see from d entrance itself. had 2 pay 10ytl to enter. there was even military guarding d place. uuu..scary~ hehe. we got ourselves d audio guide so that we know wut we're seeing

1st we enter d Harem, which is like d place 4 d empress n sultan's concubines. i think it orginated from d word 'Haram'. tp cm confuse la. bole ke ade gundik2 dlm islam? hm? ade gk cite psl guardian of d place. it must be a black guy n di'kasi'. wah. scary ok? d sultan also hv eunuchs, which is like gundik LAKI yg di'kasi' gk. waa..apekah? those were among bizarre things i found out. n of coz d building is very beautiful, full of calligraphy of quranic verses esp at d entrance. compared to other visitors, i think we muslims can appreciate it more as we can read it! rase cm...x terkate~

then comes d 2nd part of d palace: d museums. there were at least 4 separate buildings displaying things from Ottoman n non-Ottoman empire. not really a fan of museums actually. but wut struck me was d last museum, which displayed things from islamic heritage. things like the Prophet's n Khalifah's sword. it was like telling bout islam from d beginning, about d Prophet..which kinda make me sad. ok. i know Ottoman empire is rich, strong n all but look where it got them to? d Ottoman museum was full of throne decorated with gold n gems, totally contrasted d last museum. it's d THE cycle. islam was weak, getting stronger when we even conquered almost 2/3 of d world, be ustaziatul alam, got rich, LALAI, falls~ astagfirullah~~

then we juz looked around d palace~







then it was time 4 lunch. we're free to eat anywhere we like. i went with qilah, kak amani n kak mai n we found a nice restaurant! we even got discounts 4 d food. huhu. in turkey, u MUST bargain, or else RUGI LA! then actually we planned to go 2 basilica cistern but cancelled it. there was nothing much about it, juz sistem pengairan zmn dulu2. hehe. kene byr plak tu! so, we decided to go 2 Grand Bazaar. activity: shopping!~


i dunno how i ended up walking with kak mira, fiqa n kak fiesya. as usual, im d only not buying anything. but thankfully, mcm terjangkit plak sindrom beli byk2 from derg n i bought several things. yeay! everyone was calling out "malaysia" everytime we passed their shop, n it got scary. pelek btol la..tp ktorg mmg bargain btol2 la. ade dis one shop, derg x reti pon ckp english. we bargained thru d calculator! mcm maen tekan2 no la. agak lawak la..tp experience yg menarik~ n obviously time shopping tade la nk amek gmba pape kn?



we were among d first ones coming back to our hostel. menarik. kaki da stat saket da time tu. ye la, byk gile kot jln. but we still didnt hv dinner. so me n kak mira went out to look 4 a place to eat. jln punye la jauh. haha. last2 g beli hotdog+pickles kat gerai n mkn dpn blue mosque, which is actually dkt sgt ngn hostel. huhu. pusing punye la jauh~

tuesday, 24/12/07

arini nk g eyub mosque. ehh? tp 2 laki from tmpt hostel ktorg tu pon ikot. huhu. tunjuk jln kot. d place was a bit far so had to go by bus. but we've walked long enough n there was not even a bus station we could see. hmm...ohh. it turned out that d guy wanted to show us d istanbul university, from which he graduated. huhu. smgt die. siap bwk kamera lg. tp smlm ade sum of us yg nk msk tp guard tu kate taleh pakai tudung. what?? peleknye. ni sume attartuk punye keje la ni. ish3..

not long after that, we arrived at d bus station. whoa~ agak ganas basnye. bwk laju gk la. huhu. 1st time la kot naek bas kat turki. menarik. then we arrived at eyub mosque. there were so many pigeons. byk gk above d entrance n i can see sumting disgusting falling out. cover ur head! hehe. eyub mosque is named after abu ayub al-ansari, where his makam was. oh one more interesting thing bout turki. if u wanna enter a mosque, u'll hv 2 take off ur shoes, put it in a plastic bag n bring it with u. menarik kn? takot kene curik kot..

inside, some ppl were praying n reciting yaasin. al-fatihah~ i thought it was juz d normal thing. but it turned out that SOME ppl came here to pray for a hajat. eik? da stat rase pelek. in msia, it's myb wut we call as keramat. hmm..amek pengajaran la eh. then we went outside n....time 4 shopping! hehe. ppl said that things r cheap around eyub mosque~

again, we bargained thru d calculator. hehe. menarik gk la if u r in that situation. for lunch, i had kebab. which i dunno whether it was beef or lamb. but i juz ate it, telling myself it was beef. (x pnh mkn kambing ever) ok la gk. lmbt gile abes mkn. then d guys brought us 2 d cable car! huhu. x sangke turki pon ade cable car gk. bile da smpi atas tu, lawa la~ tp bukit tu cm dipenuhi kubur2 je..some of us bought candy floss so we ate together2

later that evening, we went to Ayasofia or Hagia Sofia. we arrived late n had to hurry bcoz it'll be close at 5! we got like a tourist guide who told us bout d history etc etc. it was first a church, turned into a mosque during Ottoman period n changed to a museum by Attartuk! keji. benci gile ok? kisahnye begini..kan dulu2 die church. so bile Islam da takluk Constantinople, sume mende2 mcm lukisan psl Jesus, Virgin Mary etc etc pon ditampal dgn tiles from Ottoman period. kire kasi tutup la. church tu x dimusnahkan completely, hanye tande cross yg dibuang. betape cantiknye islam kn? TAPI, si Attartuk ni, die pegi bukak blk sume tiles yg ditampal tu n tunjuk blk sume lukisan2 zmn dulu tu. geram x?? rase agak rugi sbb x smpt nk explore lame2 sgt kat situ sbb da nk tutup~

langit sudah gelap, tp mlm masih mude~ xkn g turki nk dok dlm blk je kn? huhu. so some of us decided to go to Grand Bazaar again. im a bit depressed bcoz duit byk lg. haha. pelek kn? shud be d other way round. so pegi la membeli belah...abes tu g mkn kat kedai yg dulu pnh mkn.. pastu blk la hostel..kene stat packing!

last day already?? cptnye la mase berlalu kn..today we went to blue mosque, which is d nearest place to our hostel. huhu. slalu lalu je. arini msk la tgk. taleh lame2 sgt coz by 230 da nk gerak g epot. lawa la, cm biase. oh. kat entrance die, ade cm rantai besi tau. rantai tu digantung so that time sultan lalu naek kuda utk msk masjid tu die kene tunduk. wahh..kagum btol! menunjukkan even sultan pon kene tunduk kpd Allah~

after that pegi hippodrome jap. tp tatau pon ape history nye. ade sjk time byzantine lg. huhu.

then, bermule la operasi last minit shopping! pegi towards area feri n spice market. grand bazaar kejap, n blk hostel. okeh. sumbat segale yg ade! lunch mkn fish sandwich. hehe. pastu van ktorg pon dtg..tp die g bwk van yg kecik plak. haih. x logik btol. pegi pon da byk beg. blk mesti la extra byk kn? ish2. kan die da pening nk sumbat beg2 ktorg? =P

smpi epot tros check in. haih. seriously, i hate airports! eeee....layan kt cm kt ni criminals je. benci! pastu g la solat kat prayer room. best~ siap tmpt wudhu' lg. then off we go! istanbul to zurich~~ mkn n minum puas2 dlm flight. naseb baek kali ni kejap je transit. about 1++ hrs. oh. waktu smpi tu zurich cm snow sket! haha. excited kejap

terbang ke heathrow..alhamdulillah slmt smpi..time tu cm ramai gk kat epot sbb derg cm sambut org blk haji kot. settle everything at about 10. bas plak kol 1255. huhu. menunggu lagi~~ time dok kat airport lounge tu, ade sorg makcik cleaner ni dok vacuum2. tp care die cm nk lepas geram kat sume org yg dok kat situ je. mcm ktorg ni bersalah je dok situ. huhu.. mcm2. then bas smpi, tdo dlm bas n smpi ke bumi leicester tercinte nk dkt kol 4am~~
